Frequently Asked Questions

Video is a big investment…we want you to feel prepared!

  • Our primary focus is professional videography across Western Australia, with photography packages also available where it suits the project.

We support the full process from start to finish, including:

    • Storyboarding and concept development

    • Shoot planning and scheduling

    • On-location production

    • Location scouting

    • Drone footage (CASA-certified)

    • Hiring models or talent if required

    • Professional editing and delivery

We work with businesses throughout Perth, Margaret River and regional Western Australia, making the process smooth, efficient and stress-free.

  • Easy, just get in touch.

Whether it’s a quick email, a text, a phone call, or an in-person chat over a coffee (or a beer in the arvo), it all starts with a conversation.

If you already have a fully formed idea, we’re usually able to provide a clear quote right off the bat. If things are still taking shape, we’ll help you refine the scope and work out the best approach before pricing.

No pressure, just a straightforward chat to see how we can help.

Please note that we often have shoots during the day so booking a time is best for a phone chat!

  • We’re known for being easy to work with and making the filming process relaxed and enjoyable rather than stressful. Ed is especially good at helping people feel comfortable and natural on camera, even if it’s their first time.

We also offer fast turnaround times when needed. If you’re working to a tight deadline, just let us know.

When it comes to working across different industries, experience really matters:

    Construction, trades and mining

    • Over 10 years’ experience as a carpenter, so job sites, safety and workflow are second nature

    • Efficient filming without disrupting trades or site operations

    • Ability to help tradies feel comfortable and natural on camera

    • CASA-certified drone pilot for compliant and safe aerial footage

    Real estate and residential projects

    • Holds a real estate licence, with a strong understanding of professionalism and discretion

    • Respectful filming in occupied homes and private spaces

    Events and live environments

    • Background in music and running live events

    • Comfortable working in fast-paced, unpredictable environments

    • Able to pivot quickly and capture key moments as they happen

This experience allows us to adapt our approach to each project and deliver content that feels natural, professional and fit for purpose.

  • You can get in touch in whatever way suits you best.

You can send us an email, give us a call or text, or use the contact form on our website. If you prefer, you can also book a phone call or an in-person meeting.

Please note that Ed is often on shoots, so if you call and don’t get through straight away, he’ll return your call within one business day.

Once you reach out, we’ll get back to you as soon as possible to chat through your idea and next steps.

  • We use clear, transparent pricing so you know exactly what to expect.

Our pricing is based on the scope of your project, such as shoot length, locations and editing requirements. We outline everything upfront because we know there’s nothing worse than being surprised by a quote you weren’t expecting.

If you already have a clear idea, we can usually provide a quote straight away. If not, we’ll help you scope the project properly before confirming pricing.

  • What we hear most from clients is that it’s genuinely fun.

We aim to make shoots relaxed, enjoyable and stress-free. If we can make someone’s workday a little more fun while still delivering great results, that’s a pretty special outcome for us.

  • To lock in your shoot date, we require a 20% deposit at the time of booking.

The remaining balance is due upon final delivery of the edited videos.

This ensures your date is secured and allows us to schedule crew, equipment and pre-production planning.

If you’re a budding business in need of a payment plan, we can be flexible. We know how small business cash flow can hinder getting quality videos that will in turn help ramp up your business!

  • Yes. You’re in control of your footage.

You will receive access to your footage for future use, re-edits or additional clips, with no restrictions on how you use it for your business.

Broken Open Productions retains copyright to share selected content across our portfolio, website and social channels, unless otherwise agreed.

If you’d like us to create additional reels, edits or campaign content in the future, just let us know — we’re always happy to help.

  • Item descriptionbsolutely.

We have extensive experience with storyboarding, scripting and shaping messaging so it feels natural and aligned with your brand. Whether you need a full script or just talking points, we’ll guide you through the process.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before the shoot — that’s part of what we’re here for.

  • This is very common, and totally normal.

    To prepare, we recommend:

    • Having a loose script or dot points

    • Practising in front of a mirror

    • Filming yourself on your phone a couple of times

    • Practising at least 2 days prior to your shoot

That said, don’t stress — Ed is a pro at making people feel comfortable on camera. Most clients end up enjoying the process and are surprised by how natural it feels once we get started.

Feel free to send your script over in advance so Ed can help prompt you on the day. It’s also handy to bring a print out.

  • We’ll guide you through this, but typically we recommend:

    • Planning outfits that suit the location and brand

    • Avoiding overly busy patterns or logos (unless intentional)

    • Bringing a few outfit options if possible

We’re happy to send through wardrobe and colour suggestions to help you look great on camera and match the tone of the shoot.

  • Definitely — and this is something we love doing.

We’re happy to provide 3 simple video ideas tailored specifically to you and your business at no charge.

Just get in touch and we’ll send them through to help get things moving.

  • It really depends on the scope of what you’d like to capture — and we’re happy to help you work that out.

    As a general guide:

    • Half day shoots are ideal for 1–2 locations, simpler concepts, and shorter-form content.

    • Full day shoots are better suited to multiple locations, more detailed storytelling, or shoots that require a lot of supporting footage (B-roll — the extra visual shots that make videos feel dynamic and engaging).

If your project involves a more complex script, multiple setups, or a large volume of content, a full day allows us to work efficiently without rushing.

If you’re unsure, just tell us your idea. We’ll help you scope the shoot properly and recommend the most cost-effective option, including an overall price estimate, before you lock anything in
